Mother McAuley Centre
The Mother McAuley Centre, taken for granted now by many, didn’t always exist or provide the wonderful services it provides today.
A quotation from a brilliant article by Dermot Cole (Secondary School), that first appeared in ‘Drimnagh 50’, the Parish Publication to mark the Golden Jubilee of the Parish in 1993, puts the McAuley Centre and its foundation in context.
 “In 1972 Fr. James Doyle P.P. retired owing to ill health. He was succeeded as Parish Priest by Fr. William Kealy who, until his appointment to Mourne Road was Parish Priest of St.Michael's, Inchicore.
The parish of Mourne Road was now almost thirty years old and many of its first parishioners were getting on in years. In order to cater for a growing number of older persons, the Auxiliary Bishop of Dublin opened the Mother Catherine McAuley Centre in 1975.
It provides pleasant surroundings where older persons can meet together, enjoy a chat, play Bingo, be entertained and have a daily meal. Some of its members first came to Drimnagh to settle down and raise a family in the 1930’s.”
On Friday, December 10th ’2004,The Mother McAuley Centre saw the official opening of its magnificent new wing. Mary Harney T.D. Minister for Health, performed the opening. Bishop Fiachra O Ceallaigh and Rev. Ivor Power blessed the new wing accompanied by our own Frs. Martin, John and Denis
Since the refurbishment we have doubled the numbers attending each day, and our next project is to renovate the kitchen area.
On the 1st of June last we held our 3rd Annual Golf Classic in Donabate Golf. it was a great sucess. Twenty Four teams entered and all tees were sponsored. The amount raised was €9,900.
